Cuttle fish picture
A cephalopod of the genus Sepia, having an internal shell, large eyes, and ten arms furnished with denticulated suckers, by means of which it secures its prey. The name is sometimes applied to dibranchiate cephalopods generally. It has an ink bag, opening into the siphon, from which, when pursued, it throws out a dark liquid that clouds the water, enabling it to escape observation.
The Cuttle fish is one of the oceans most interesting creatures. This fish that is found in all oceans of the world is considered by scientists as intelligent. It preys on small fish which it catches with its tentacles, it in turn is preyed upon by bigger fish like sharks, dolphins and sting rays. This clever little creature has a number of means of escape when being pursued, it can move away very quickly using an internal jet propulsion system or adjust its internal buoyancy system to sink rapidly or can squirt colored ink and escape under cover, it can also change its body color very quickly to disappear into the sand. The ability to change color is also employed to indicate anger, fear and sexual arousal. The cuttle fish is a relative of the Octopus, Squid and scallop among others and is therefore enjoyed on the table as a quality eating fish, a number of interesting recipes are available. If eating one of these fish is not your thing they are able to be purchased and kept successfully in home aquariums, you will need to fully understand the life of this amazing creature to provide a suitable environment for it at home but it can be done.
